When it comes to football, there have been many controversial calls, both past and present. What I saw during the Monday night football game between the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers made me sick, and it wasn't the officials as much as it was the horrible and sensationalistic coverage of ESPN, looking to create it's own story line.

Replacement officials working hard
By Dave Brown | dave@nflen.com
The NFL sent out a memo to the replacement officials outlining the problems they had in week one, and what the NFL wanted these officials to work on for the coming weeks.

Average age of all NFL teams, including offense and defense
By Dave Brown | dave@nflen.com
Go here for the latest article on the average age of every team heading into free agency in 2013. This article was done right before the start of the 2012 season.
Twice a season, I take a look at each team and see how old their roster is. The last time I looked was heading into free agency. At that time, the Pittsburgh Steelers were the oldest team in the NFL, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the youngest. The Super Bowl champion New York Giants were the 19th oldest and 14th youngest, however you want to look at that.
As an overview of how I calculate these numbers, I do not exclude special teams players. For this article and going forward, that becomes important, as I also calculate the average ages of every offense and defense in the NFL.
I do not include practice squads or players on injured reserve. Practice squads are composed of younger players, and are probably about the same average age across the board. Including them would just increase the amount of work with no gain in information. The players on injured reserve, with the possible exception of one from each team under the new rules, will not have an impact on the active rosters for the entire season.
Now that we have an idea of what teams were looking back, it's time to look forward into the 2012 season and see where they are now.
Did the Pittsburgh Steelers get younger?
Which team is the youngest in the NFL?
This time, there is much more. Who has the youngest defense in the NFL, and the oldest offense?

Best NFL quarterbacks going into 2012-13 season
From Geno Ball
The 2012 season is about two months away, and it’s a perfect time to rank NFL players by position. A combination of factors such as stats, overall performance, etc., determine where players are ranked. Analysis will be added very soon, I just wanted to get these rankings done first.*Player ages are how old they will be on September 5th, NFL Kickoff date.

Prostate cancer takes Ben Davidson's life at 72
-by Ryan Ebert
Former Raiders head coach John Madden on KCBS-AM radio in San Francisco reported that Raiders defensive end Ben Davidson has died. He died of prostate cancer Monday night at the age of 72.
In eleven years in the NFL Davidson was first drafted out of Washington by the Giants in 1961. He first played in the NFL with the Packers. Before his time in Oakland he spent two years with the Redskins.
Davidson had a physical play, a raspy voice, and his distinctive mustache which helped create the image for Al Davis' Raiders in the 1960s. The defensive end made the Pro Bowl three straight years between 1966 through 1968.
"We'll miss him," Raiders owner Mark Davis told CSN Bay Area on Tuesday. "He was larger than life and a wonderful human being."
While with the Raiders Davidson made the playoffs including the team that lost to the Packers in Super Bowl II.
"He was a tough, gutsy ballplayer, team oriented with enough meanness in him to be feared and enough talent to be effective," former Raiders teammate Tom Flores told the Associated Press.
"He was just a big, tall, skinny guy that (Al) Davis took a chance with," Flores said. "He was able to rush the passer and worked hard to get bigger and stronger, with the character and personality. He was always that way."
After he retired Davidson made a career playing in movies such as "M-A-S-H", "Conan the Barbarian, "Necessary Roughness" and played himself in Miller Lite ads.
He has left behind a family that includes his wife Kathy, and three daughters Jan, Dana, and Vicki.
Free agency and green grass explained
By Dave Brown
In less than five weeks, training camps will open around the league. Well, that's a ways off yet, and coaches are looking at their 90 man rosters and working towards what they want their final roster to look like.
Teams are going to have more of this or more of that on their rosters right now, it's the nature of the NFL. If you say a team can look at 120 players, you had better bet that in most cases, that team is going to look at 120 different players. Well, 90 players on a roster does seem to be a big enough number for now, and this is that time of year after most of the big name free agents are gone that the fans start to notice the little things, like that receiver the team just picked up, or that defensive end.

NFCN: Four UDFAs to Watch
By Kent Lee Platte
Every year during OTAs and minicamps, there are usually one or two Undrafted Free Agents that really stand out on any given team. Sometimes those players really pan out, for instance Victor Cruz was a huge standout after going undrafted in 2011 though injuries delayed his breakout season. Sam Shields and Aaron Berry both went undrafted, but went on to start for NFCN teams. Other times, they look like they'll make a splash only to fizzle out such as Lions standout Ricardo Silva last season. Today I'll be addressing Undrafted Free Agents in the NFCN that have either stood out in some way or have a great chance to make the roster based on the team's present needs. Universally these players had dropped in the draft for one reason or another, be it questionable injury history or a poor showing at the Combine, but in the end NFL teams have excellent scouting departments who are able to identify traits in these players that makes them a fit for the team that signs them. The NFCN is a tough division, boasting multiple playoff teams nearly every year and all four NFCN teams having made an appearance in the past few years. The players that I name here have a good chance to shine or be swallowed up by one of the NFC's powerhouse divisions.

Age of every NFL team heading into free agency
By Dave Brown
Heading into the NFL free agency and draft periods of the off season, which teams are looking to get younger? Well, we know that going into the 2011 season, the Detroit Lions were the oldest team in the NFL, with the oldest offense and 9th oldest defense. The Lions are probably looking to get younger.
Back in August of 2011, ESPN calculated these team ages, not using special teams players. Looking at that list, one can see how the San Francisco 49ers both improved and got younger before the start of last season.
